CMA has received several calls from physicians in Southern California whose patients have received letters from Heritage California accountable care organization (ACO).
These letters state that the patient’s doctor is “participating in a new care coordination program,” and ask the patient whether they want Medicare to share their personal health information with Heritage California ACO.
Many patients are confused by this letter and are asking their physicians for clarification and guidance. For instance, because the letters fail to identify the specific physician who is participating in the ACO, physicians are equally confused and concerned.
To help physicians understand ACOs and ACO participation, CMA has prepared this ACO FAQ.
