Sacramento – The California Medical Association announced today that it has hired Jay Hansen as its Chief Strategy Officer.
Hansen, who is currently chief legislative advocate for the State Building and Construction Trades Council of California, starts in the newly created position on July 5. As CSO, Hansen will be the organization's No. 2 executive officer, reporting directly to CEO Dustin Corcoran, and will oversee all internal efforts to develop and implement a long-term strategic plan.
"Jay brings an incredible wealth of knowledge, experience and skill to this job," Corcoran said. "He is highly respected in and around the Capitol and well known for his political smarts, bipartisanship and thoughtfulness. I am absolutely thrilled to welcome Jay aboard, and I know his fine leadership will help transform CMA into a more dynamic and powerful advocate for physicians and their patients."
Hansen will work with the organization's top executives to foster a climate of collaboration, progressive planning and accomplishment that enhances physicians' ability to serve their patients and deliver the highest quality of care. Hansen will help develop a long-term vision and goals and be responsible for making sure the organization meets them.
"I am honored to join an organization with such a long, rich tradition of advancing organized medicine and to serve the thousands of physicians across California who tirelessly devote themselves to their patients," Hansen said. "This is an extremely exciting time in health care with federal reform driving a new wave of challenges and opportunities. I look forward to working closely with CMA's leaders and staff to best meet the needs of California physicians."
Hansen has worked a decade for the State Building and Construction Trades Council. Prior to that, he spent eight years as a special assistant advising four different Assembly Speakers. Hansen has a bachelor's degree from Occidental College and a Master's of Public Administration from the University of Southern California.
