The MSS Governing Council, representing California's medical students, is comprised of two representatives from each medical school campus. Each representative serves a two-year term. An incoming alternate is elected from the incoming first-year class by their colleagues. The next year, the second-year delegate rotates off the Governing Council with the alternate moving up to that position and; once again, an alternate is elected from the incoming first-year class.
The CMA-MSS through its Governing Council offers opportunities to address medical student, resident/fellow issues, such as debt repayment, access to care and clinical issues such as smoking and relevant issues for patients and the profession. The MSS is able to influence and affect policy in the legal and legislative arenas through access to CMA's physician leadership, the Board of Trustees and the House of Delegates.
