Medical Staff Challenges
Medical staffs across California continue to face many challenges such as threats to self-governance, increasing regulatory burdens of EMTALA, reductions in reimbursement, and ability to provide quality care with decreasing financial resources.

Physicians Need CMA-OMSS
CMA-OMSS' legal, legislative, and economic advocacy efforts include:

  • Safeguarding medical staff self-governance
  • Obtaining funding for physicians on-call services
  • Verbal order policy simplification
  • Medical error reporting protections
  • Medicare rate increases
  • EMTALA reform and protection

Benefits of CMA-OMSS Membership
Membership in CMA-OMSS includes access to resources and assistance in addressing medical staff issues, including:

  • CMA hotline for questions from Medical Executive Committee members, Chiefs-of-Staff, and Medical Staff Coordinators.
  • CMA's annotated Model Medical Staff Bylaws (updated to include new JCAHO, state, and federal guidelines) and discounted bylaws review

Annual OMSS Fee Schedule
OMSS Membership dues are based on the number of beds for which a hospital is licensed:

  • $300 (fewer than 100 beds)
  • $700 (100-300 beds)
  • $1000 (301-500 beds)
  • $1500 (over 500 beds)
